Oils ain’t Oils any more
Well, who would have thought it? After years of being told that coconut oil was the worst possible oil and we should use margarine because butter is bad for us, the world has turned upside down. And I am not a conspiracy theorist! But any thinking person has known for a very long time that trans-fats are bad. In fact any artificially produced food (???) can’t be good for us.
Now, the Manila Times has published a report which debunks the coconut oil myth. The same report states categorically that “a suppression of the high content of transfatty acids in partially hydrogenated unsaturated oils was undertaken.”
Funnily enough, I was reading just recently on BlackFitnessBlog a post titled Coconut Oil – The Good Fat?
Sometimes, if you wait long enough, logic and common sense will prevail. Well over 20 years ago, Time Magazine ran a cover story entitled “The Cholesterol Myth”. When I googled that phrase, it came up with an amazing range of results. Check it out.
And then I came across this from GMANews: Bill vs trans-fatty acids. Amazing! “Several studies in the US proved that no level or no amount of trans-fat is safe for the human diet. Even the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends countries to eliminate processed trans-fats.”
These few words are a bit of a ramble, but they express how I feel. Check things out for yourself. Don’t believe all the hype about anything. Use common sense. Eat a range of foods, from as natural a source as possible. Cook from scratch. And try to avoid anything that is a hydrogenated byproduct of petroleum production. Such as margarine.

You are so right! I recently heard this too about coconut oil and was very surprised! Great information and I love your blog!!!
Such good information. I’ve done a lot of reading about coconut oil but I’m always on the lookout for more information that supports its use… It has received a lot of bad press over the last 20 or so years–but hopefully with posts like yours the news about this healthy fat will get out! Thanks again for an interesting and informative post
i have never thought to ingest coconut oil only to use it as a cooling massage oil or a tiny bit of it to keep my hair in place. Clarified butter (Ghee) and olive oil are the best oils to eat.
“Eat a range of foods, from as natural a source as possible. Cook from scratch.” is right on the mark for healthy diet and digestion.
Love it..Cooking from scratch is something I wish more people did. Even full time working parents, if they plan ahead can make the time. That and doing your research into foods. I will definitely be back to read more.
