Found this informative article recently - from Health First Chiropractic - entitled “What Exactly Does a Chiropractor Do?“, and thought I would share it with you:
“There are many ideas out there (good and bad) about what exactly doctors of chiropractic do. Chiropractic is a very effective therapy for pain control; however, the profession has much more to offer than relief of aches and pain.
Chiropractic is a very unique approach to whole-body health care and wellness. The basic idea of chiropractic philosophy may be simplified through explaining five simple truths of the profession. They are as follows:
The body is a self-healing organism. As long as there is no interference with the body, it should always be 100% healthy. Nature is unable to program for less than perfect health.
The nervous system controls every part of the body. There is nothing we do or experience that is not controlled by the nervous system.
Interference with the proper functioning of the nervous system can occur – especially where the nerves exit the spinal cord and pass between the vertebrae. This disturbed function is referred to as a vertebral subluxation and arises when the vertebrae are not moving properly causing pressure or irritation on the associated nerves.
When subluxations are left uncorrected, they can have wide-ranging negative effects on health and result in dis-ease.
A chiropractor’s job is to locate and remove vertebral subluxations through a chiropractic adjustment. This restores the natural order of the nervous system and allows the body to effectively heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.
These five statements support the fact that chiropractors do not treat specific illnesses; rather their goal is to ensure the body is operating at its maximum potential and heals itself as designed.
For further information on the detrimental effects of subluxation or the many benefits of chiropractic adjustments, talk to your chiropractor.”
